There was plenty of excitement at Moorland House recently as residents welcomed a very special feathered guest: a beautiful owl, brought in by The Creature Teachers.

The Creature Teachers visit Moorland House every month, each time bringing different animals for residents to meet, learn about and enjoy. These visits have quickly become a much-loved part of life at the home, offering residents the chance to experience something a little different, while creating plenty of smiles, conversation and laughter along the way.
This month’s owl visit was a real highlight. Residents had the opportunity to see the owl up close, ask questions, and watch as it calmly perched on a handler’s glove. For many, it was a rare chance to meet such a striking bird in a relaxed and comfortable setting. The owl’s beautiful markings, calm nature and curious expressions made it a wonderful talking point throughout the afternoon.

At Moorland House, activities are about much more than simply filling the calendar. They are an important part of helping residents stay engaged, stimulated and connected. Animal visits can be especially meaningful, as they often spark memories, encourage conversation and bring a real sense of joy to the day. There is something quite special about seeing residents’ faces light up when an animal comes into the room and this visit was no exception.
The photos from the day say it all. Residents were smiling, chatting and taking a genuine interest in the owl, with staff and visitors helping to make sure everyone could get involved at their own pace. Some residents were keen to get close, while others enjoyed watching from the comfort of their chair. As always, the focus was on making the experience enjoyable, safe and comfortable for everyone.

Moorland House is a warm residential care home in Barton-on-Sea, just a short distance from the coast. The home is intentionally kept small, allowing the team to really get to know each resident and support them in a personal, meaningful way. Regular activities, special events and visiting entertainers all help to create a friendly, homely atmosphere where residents can enjoy each day.
A big thank you goes to The Creature Teachers for another fantastic visit. We are already looking forward to seeing which animals they bring next month, although the owl has certainly set the bar rather high!
