As a new operator to the care industry (having acquired Glebe House in December 2020 and Moorland House more recently in August 2022), Merling Care Homes brings a fresh approach to the services it offers. As a privately owned group, Managing Director, Roger Brown, brings his expertise from a successful career as a technology leader, allowing him to really look at ways to improve all aspects across the homes including residents well-being, staff welfare, leadership and external stakeholder engagement to name a few.
As a passionate advocate of training and personal development, Merling Care Homes has been able to attract outstanding staff from management through to care. This has translated into a better experience for residents, more accessible documentation for staff/health care professionals, higher levels of transparency and improved safety for loved ones.
We continually interact with and listen to residents, relatives and health care professionals, allowing us to proactively respond to their needs and any areas requiring improvement. We are extremely proud of this approach and the results it has achieved in a relatively short period of time as reflected in reviews and wonderful feedback we consistently receive.
Our vision is to continue to grow and provide excellent care in medium sized home environments and to maintain that home from home feel.
Merling Care Homes acquired Moorland House in August 2022 and Glebe House previously in December 2020. Since taking over, there has been a significant investment across both homes to represent the high standards that Merling Care is so proud of. Both homes have had renovations completed and the décor updated and modernised. Significant investments have also been made to engage a strong leadership team, committed staff and to ensure that policies are in place to train, retain and support our staff, so they are happy, can develop and ultimately stay with us long term.
We are very proud of the homes we have created and the improvements we have made and continue to make. Both homes follow Merling Care Homes’ core values of Understanding, Calmness, Kindness, Trustworthiness, Positivity and Respectfulness, which is extremely important to us.
It is crucial that we serve our residents as best we can, so are in constant communication about what is really important to them and their family and loved ones. Key things identified was a need for good leadership from the management team and consistency in staff, to allow familiarity and a feeling of safety and community. In response, we have put in place a robust recruitement, training and retention strategy, to ensure we attract, nuture and develop high calibre staff that stay long term.
We genuinely seek to provide a homely environment where residents are at their most comfortable and are as happy as possible. We purposely keep our homes small, as we feel this creates a more relaxed and comfortable living experience, where residents feel secure within recognisable surroundings amongst familiar, happy faces.
The continued success of our homes is reliant on providing safe and nurturing environments run by an effective leadership team, and committed staff.
Our priority continues to be the well-being and happiness of our residents. We know that a successful care home requires great staff, and pride ourselves on recruiting amazing people who share our values. We are fully committed to investing in staff development and put all of our staff through a comprehensive training program and routinely ensure that they are trained in the latest methods, techniques and policies.
