Moorland House was acquired by Merling Care Homes in August 2022. The home represented excellent potential given the location, building, beautiful surroundings and some very committed and passionate staff members. However, it was clear that the home lacked leadership and had come under the radar of the CQC and Hampshire County Council as there had been a number of safe guarding incidents reported. As a result the council took the extraudinary step of putting the home into special measures.
Now under new ownership; management, leadership and care have been restored to an excellent standard with relatives and stakeholders positively commenting on the service, evidenced by a 9.6/10 rating on carehomes.co.uk. The home which currently has a CQC status of ‘requires improvement’ now awaits a new CQC inspection with the much anticipated view that the home will be classified as ‘good’.
Moorland House is a wonderful home very close to the beach and the beautiful quant town of Barton on Sea. The home has been recently renovated and boasts 23 newly decorated en-suite rooms.
Fun and engaging activities is a key part of life at Moorland House and we have an extensive calendar of events to ensure residents are stimulated and happy at all times.
Weekly and monthly activities include motivational memory recall quizzes, exciting singing and dancing with Retro Rita and motivational classes, where we work on hand eye coordination through fun and engaging games.
A real favourite with residents is our animal therapy sessions, where creature teachers bring in 5 different animals each visit, along with a therapy Donkey.
Every week residents are offered reflexology sessions, a technique that applies gentle pressure to the feet and hands to aid relaxation and help the body’s own healing process. We also offer beauty and hair treatments, so residents can always look and feel their best.
In addition, we are always excited to celebrate special occassions such as birthdays and key calendar events, as well as hosting parties, where we encourage and welcome as many family and freinds to join with us in the fun.
Our in-house chef creates wonderfully nutricious and varied meals catering for a range of paletts and tastes. And when it’s party time, he bakes a great cake too
